Formula

Days between counts whole years and months by the calendar, then the leftover days; the same span is also given as total days and weeks. Business days are the weekdays in the span, optionally net of observed US federal holidays.

years/months = whole calendar months from start to end (day-clamped)
days         = end − (start + whole months)
total days   = end − start          total weeks = total days ÷ 7
business days = weekdays in (start, end]  (− observed federal holidays)

Add / subtract applies years and months first (clamped to the month's last day), then weeks, then days — counted as calendar or business days.

Tick "Include end day (add 1 day)" when both the first and the last day should count, such as the length of a stay or an event.

Frequently asked questions

How do I find the number of days between two dates?
Enter a start date and an end date in the "Days Between Dates" tab. The calculator returns the span in years, months, and days, the total number of days and weeks, and the business days in between. Tick "Include end day" to count the final day as well.
What counts as a business day?
A business day is any weekday — Monday through Friday. This calculator also reports business days that exclude observed US federal holidays, so you can see working days net of public holidays.
How are US federal holidays determined?
Fixed-date holidays such as Independence Day (July 4) and Christmas (December 25) follow the federal observed rule — if the date falls on a Saturday it is observed the Friday before, and on a Sunday the Monday after. Floating holidays follow their rule, such as Thanksgiving on the fourth Thursday of November and Memorial Day on the last Monday of May.
How does adding months to a date handle month lengths?
Months are added by the calendar and clamped to the target month's last day, so January 31 plus one month is the last day of February. After the years and months are applied, weeks and days are added on top.
Can I add business days instead of calendar days?
Yes. In the "Add / Subtract" tab choose "Business days" for the Days field to step over weekends, or "Business days (skip weekends & holidays)" to also skip observed US federal holidays. Years, months, and weeks are always applied as calendar time.
