This calculator estimates a healthy body-weight range from your height using adult BMI categories. Enter height in US or metric units to see the 18.5–25 kg/m² band in pounds or kilograms, plus weight ranges for the other BMI categories. It is most useful for adults 18 and older.

Formula

A healthy weight here is the weight that corresponds to a BMI of 18.5 to 25 at your height. Rearrange BMI = weight / height²:

weight (kg) = BMI × height (m)²

US results convert kilograms to pounds (1 lb = 0.45359237 kg) and round to the nearest pound. Metric results keep one decimal place.

The same inversion at BMI 16.5, 18.5, 25, 30, 35, and 40 builds the cutoff scale shown next to the result — the same ticks calculator.net places on its color bar.

BMI does not measure body composition. People with more muscle or a larger frame often weigh more than this range and can still be healthy. A clinician can help interpret the numbers for you.

These bands are a screening tool. Being outside a band is a prompt to look closer — with food quality, activity, sleep, and medical care — not a label.

Frequently asked questions

What is a healthy weight range?
For most adults 18 and older, a body mass index (BMI) between 18.5 and 25 kg/m² is the usual healthy or typical-weight band. This calculator turns that BMI band into a weight range for your height. It is a population-level estimate, not a personal diagnosis.
How is the healthy weight range calculated?
Weight equals BMI times height in metres squared. The healthy range uses BMI 18.5 on the low end and BMI 25 on the high end. The category table uses the same idea at the other adult BMI cutoffs (30, 35, and 40).
Why doesn't this ask for my current weight or sex?
Adult BMI categories depend only on height and weight, and the healthy band is the same for men and women. This page answers "what weights sit in the healthy BMI band for this height?" To see where you are today, use the BMI Calculator with your current weight.
Is BMI a good measure of a healthy weight?
BMI is a useful screen for an average adult, but it cannot tell muscle from fat or account for frame size, ethnicity, or medical conditions. Very muscular people often sit above the range and still feel well; others can sit inside it and still need a clinician's advice. Treat the numbers as a starting point.
Does this work for children or teens?
No. These adult BMI cutoffs are meant for people 18 and older. Children and teens are assessed with age- and sex-specific growth-chart percentiles rather than a single healthy-weight band.
